Our Mission:

Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center is a sacred space where people explore and integrate their relationships with God, Earth, Self and Others. Operating out of a Catholic tradition, Prairiewoods is open to people of all faiths and cultures.

Our Vision:
  • To be open to the Divine Presence within all members of the Earth Community
  • To integrate the principles of the universe: interiority, diversity and communion
  • To reverence all of creation as sacred and revelatory of the Holy
  • To embody a lifestyle that cares for the earth and celebrates the human
  • To extend hospitality to all
  • To impact ecological consciousness
Our Philosophy:

Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center is founded on an incarnational theology rooted in the Gospel life of Jesus that sees God as present and active in this world. This includes the belief that our God is revealed to us through the beauty and magnificence of the created world as well as through the written word of Scripture. Thus, we commit ourselves to an exploration of a spirituality that connects the human with the sacred healing and revelatory powers of creation.

We believe that our God is here among us and that Earth and all of creation are sacramental in nature, signifying in the presence of the Divine. Accordingly, Prairiewoods opens its doors and its 70 acres of woods and prairie for the spiritual benefit of all who come. We welcome individuals and groups who seek a place for reflection, for solitude, and for other opportunities for spiritual, theological, psychological and physical well being.

We are dedicated to offering a sacred space, warm hospitality, spiritual and educational experiences and a variety of resources to people of all faiths and cultures. Through our programming and professional services, we support a holistic view of the human and foster connections of body, mind and spirit.

In the spirit of Francis and Clare and of our sponsoring Franciscan community, we feel called to a deeper relationship with the land and the life of the natural community. This call commits us to living peacefully, justly and in right relationships. As caretakers in a spirituality/ecology center, we are committed to offering simple but comfortable accommodations, the use of alternative energy sources, sustainable treatment of the land, conservation of natural resources and other earth friendly practices.

Today's Reflection
Praise be to thee, O Lord, for our Mother the Earth, who sustains and nourishes us, bringing forth diverse fruits, flowers of many colors, and the grass.

- St. Francis of Assisi
